A mountain world
Eppan-Appiano lies at the foot of its local mountain, the Mendel-Mendola. A number of hiking tours and sometimes challenging paths form a contrast to gentle walks along the valley and through woodland. From high up on the Penegal mountain ridge, all-round views may be had across Bolzano-Bozen, towards the south, and there are some classic picture-postcard views of the Schlern and the Weiß and Schwarzhorn mountains. Those preferring to access these views in a less strenuous manner can take the historical Mendelbahn funicular railway, which leads up to the Penegal pass from the neighbouring village of Kaltern-Caldaro.
